NASSCOM Innovation Awards 2007 – 21 companies short-listed

The NASSCOM Innovation Awards, currently in its fourth edition, is a key initiative by NASSCOM to highlight the true innovators in the Indian IT industry. Through this initiative, we hope that the award winners will provide a ‘light house’ effect and further spur the innovation movement in India.

Keeping in sync with the NASSCOM-BCG Innovation Report, we introduced the following categories this year:

a. Market facing innovation – Market facing innovations are innovations in areas which impact a firm’s markets. These could be new products or services, new customer segments, business models etc. Innovations in this area have typically a direct correlation with the revenue of a firm.

b. Process innovation – Process Innovations are innovations related to how different processes are managed within a firm to increase the firms’s competitiveness.

c. Input innovations – Input Innovations are innovations related to inputs which are brought into a firm. Examples of typical inputs into a firm would include talent, capital and technology.

The company segmentation was based on large & medium, emerging and young innovators (less than 3 years old on 1st November 2007). We had nearly 200 applicants this year from which a short list has been created in various categories based on the rankings given by a jury.

As per our normal practice, we will be conducting interviews of the short-listed firms in Delhi (15th November 2007),  Bangalore (19 th November 2007) and Chennai (28 th November 2007).

The Delhi session is for market facing innovation category for large and medium firms, Bangalore session will showcase the Market Facing – Emerging & Startup companies and the Chennai will showcase the Process & Input Innovations.

The format for the presentations will be 10 minute presentation and 20 minutes Q&A from the panel. The companies which would get shortlisted would present their Innovations at the NASSCOM 2008 | India Leadership Forum from 13th to 15th Feb 2008 in Mumbai.

We want to reiterate the commitment of NASSCOM to promote and publicize Innovation as the new way of sustaining growth and the success of the Indian IT Industry.
