r Raman Roy started the session on the light note by saying that today traveling is probably more difficult than doing business J. Speaking passionately on the topic, Who Dares Wins, a topic, which he can very well relate to, he brought forth the different meanings of the world dare in the dictionary. Courage was the common element across various meanings. To make the topic real and practical, he listed few selective companies, who according to him really Dared to Win: Apple: Dared to innovate on PC Microsoft: Dared to offer office automation tools for PC users Dell: Dared to innovate the distribution model in the PC industry Google: Dared to provided search engine technology for internet users Analysis of the above companies clearly shows the following characteristics about these companies: Desire to venture into unknown oceans Started off as a niche companies Founded uncontested spaces business model, services, customer sets Led by people with Entrepreneurial appetite While talking on Indian Phenomena of Daring, he highlighted: Indian IT industry dared to offshore client critical software development work to India BPO Industry (the industry he had firsthand experience) was not to be left far behind to canvass for real time and back office processing to be moved offshore He shared his own daring journey from American Experience to GE to Wipro Spectramind and now at Quattro. His formula to dare: Identify Uncontested -> Formulate Strategy -> Execute/Implement. He stressed on the importance of Reconstructing Market Boundaries (gave an example of how a guy in Jalandhar uses Washing Machine for making Lassi) and Managing the Big Picture, in addition to Executing the Strategy. Without taking too much time he concluded the session and gave lots of time for Q&A.
