NASSCOM EMERGEOUT second edition kickstarts in Chennai on 29th April 2009

The contribution of SMBs to the GDP of any emerging economy has been well researched and documented. So much so, that most global solution providers have designed an entire suite, to meet the specific requirements of companies who fall under this bracket. During these uncertain times when fortune swings between hope and despair like a pendulum, it is only appropriate that we explore survival and growth strategies for IT SMEs in these turbulent times. So the theme decided by the EMERGE Community for the conference is “Survival & Growth Strategies for Indian IT SMEs”

Discovering new horizons!

It’s been a year of discontent and yet a year of great satisfaction – for the country, the industry and for me personally. Taking over the reins as Chairman of NASSCOM at a time when there were just a few clouds on the otherwise blue skills of the Indian IT and Business Services industry, it has been interesting to see the constant word “growth” being quickly replaced by recession, slowdown, protectionism and layoffs as the repetitive lexicon of the times.

Lessons in Organization Building

A product company with marquee clients and strong products in Web Content Management and Healthcare finds itself unable to scale up and grow beyond a certain point. They participate in the NASSCOM mentoring program, and what follows is a story of how a team of individuals helped Srishti Software realize its true potential. We spoke to Mr. Ajay Sharma, CEO, Srishti Software, who said, “If any other emerging company gets a chance to be a part of a similar program, I would tell them to jump to it and do it!”

Climbing up the ladder with AgreeYa

The second edition of the Exciting Emerging Companies to Work for Survey had a new name in the Top 5 – Noida-based AgreeYa Solutions which came in at No 3, a steep climb up from the No 15 position clocked in the first edition of the survey. In this edition of HR Factor, we meet with AgreeYa’s Managing Partner Ajay Kaul to know more about this company’s people formula.

Getting rolling with the big idea

Pune-based Persistent Systems has won a NASSCOM award for innovation, stemming from a project they delivered for their client – tyre major Bridgestone. The Emerge newsletter team visits with Persistent to find out why this engagement is now being held up as a shinning example of innovation the world over.

Indian IT – BPO Sector : Performance and Outlook

The last edition of the Nolida CEO Breakfast Meeting held on a chilly morning in January, in Noida had established this council driven activity as a very successful one and knowingly enough this time also the registrations were very encouraging. We arrived quite early to the sprawling campus at Cadence in Noida SEZ and were quite surprised to see langurs, being held on a leash and taken for a walk around the complex. A habit more readily associated with the canine variety really. When we asked our host, Mr Saugat Sen, Vice President R&D at Cadence about it, he jokingly remarked, it was a local solution, to a global problem. To drive out the not-so-innocuous looking monkeys from holding the employees captive. Did someone just mention innovation? We were all taken in by the warm hospitality exhibited by Mr Sen and his team.

Carbon Tax?

Carbon Tax?

I am not an expert in the green stuff but off lately I have been doing a lot of research on this especially the implications of green on IT and what effect it will have on IT migrations for a corporate (as we @ S7 Software focus mainly around migration and re-engineering domain)).

Damn it!!! It all Makes Sense

I was jogging in the morning last week or so, and lot of issues just popped in front of me about the recent terror attack on SL team in Lahore and how can they just shoot and escape so easily especially when they were promised security of the highest standards. That too no casualties to the SL team other than minor injuries even though they were lame ducks and could have easily been killed, all of them.
