Discover “The Professional” within you – An evening with Subroto Bagchi, MindTree
The word Professional has many connotations. Instantaneously it conjures up images of nattily dressed doctors, engineers, MBAs and mostly of people who are self employed, having the ability to earn their livelihood through practise of their chosen craft. Over time, the word has become rather loosely coupled and we have to take adequate care, lest it becomes a clichéd variety. It is actually a very powerful idea – a way of life, only pursued by a certain type of people, who have a rather distinct mindset. As succinctly put by Mr Subroto Bagchi in his new book, the two rare qualities that a professional displays, are the ability to work unsupervised and the ability to certify the completion of one’s work. He does not need a boss who writes his appraisal, giving him constructive feedback for continuous improvement. In most work environments, people who produce anything of economic value usually need supervision. A person who needs supervision is no professional. He is an amateur, maybe even an apprentice.
Traits such as these and more, has been explored by Subroto Bagchi, the newly designated “Gardner” of Mindtree, in his new book “The Professional”. Mr Bagchi has also authored two other management bestsellers – “The High-performance Entrepreneur” and “Go Kiss the World“. His “easy-to-read” style and broad based examples from different walks of life make his writing so endearing to the readers. NASSCOM is happy to host Mr Bagchi on 8th October 2009 at the NASSCOM office in Delhi. This also happens to be our 52nd Friday’s 2.0 which we are doing on a Thursday this tiem. This is a great opportunity for us to listen to some of his ideas as he talks about his new book and also related topics involving the present business environment.
I am writing to invite you to be part of the journey as Mr Bagchi dissects “The Professional”, even as we discover the same within us. It is a journey and not a destination. It has to be travelled, to be experienced. If interested, then do please send your confirmation online on the EMERGE community site
I look forward to your participation please.

While i agree on the traits of a professional, what should be ways and means making one as the present education system does not make any efforts to make one.It is obivious that the organisations big, small will have to shoulder this reponsibilty.Any wisdom sharing on this?
