Well, so here I am, once again with a full house at the 55th NASSCOM EMERGE Friday’s 2.0 session, which is being taken by Gaurav Mishra, popularly, known for his blog Gauravonomics. I am always amazed as to how “social media” is attracting and pulling crowds world over.

Ankur Lal, CEO Infozech, initiates the session, introducing the format to the entire audience. And I agree to Ankur, haven’t seen a participative and energetic crowd like this before :)

So now we have Gaurav starting the presentation introducing, his talk, which is focused for product start-ups and those who are planning to start product start-ups. Gaurav says for the last 3 years Iv been hanging out with a bunch of people, who have been doing product start-ups, and Iv always had this keeda in my mind, as to why dont we have good product start-ups from India.

Rethinking Tech Start-ups, is what Gaurav starts with and nwo we have a two axis’ on which Gaurav has positioned the product start-ups. Interestingly Gaurav, has actually touched the best chord, for product companies, its always a challenge. Giving the example of SMSGupShup, which is a perfect example of a tweak made for the local market, which has become big. I personally like Gaurav’s idea of supporting his thoughts with examples.

Iv been thinking on why most Indian start-ups are local tweaks

When I started my business I said, I would not build a business as a local tweak for the local market. Interestingly, Gaurav is sharing some amazing examples of Indian comapnies and how they are as competitive, with products for the global market. Good to see lifeblob on Gaurav’s Map :)

Five Reasons Why these companies should make to the global stage and now Gaurav asks the audience as to if he has left any companies in his list and glad to see the audience response.

Gaurav now ends the session with a very interesting challenge for the entire room. Which says, how many and how soon will we become from just local tweaks to Global product and services company.

I definitely applaud and do appreciate Gaurav’s larger vision. Its interesting to hear from someone finally, who says Social Media is not just about blogs and twitter, its much bigger in scope. Have personally not heard of such a remark since long.

And now Gaurav is taking questions from the room on social media marketing, and I am sure there are going to be many of them. I do agree to Gaurav on “building online focused communities”.

spelling errors

I personally found the presentation lacking on the core subject – “social media and how to use it to reach markets abroad!.. I am sure 80% of the audience wanted to know what exactly is the definition, reach and scope of social media abroad and how to best use it for promotions of their business etc. The presentation was small, lacking in content and full of screenshots. Discussion centred more on “thought leadership” through blogs and hardly anything on how to leverage social media to reach audience abroad. Blogs are probably just 1/10th of the social media today. To understand the big and overwhelming state of social media I would recommend having a look at this post at our blogging site – http://ukbloggers.net/blogs/social-media-isn-t-a-fad-it-s-a-fundamental-shift-in-the-way-we-communicate.html
