Year-end euphoria: Dreams for 2010

Before the season of festive good wishes and good resolutions wears out, here’s a list of the policy changes that I would like to happen in the new year, to promote growth and innovation

The GOAL and the way of achieving it!!

The GOAL and the way of achieving it…….

First of all let me take this opportunity to express my happiness over S7 Software being selected as the leader of NASSCOM Emerge 50 2009, we are all very excited and feeling déjà vu but had a great party too to celebrate the same. Want to thank NASSCOM and all involved for making this such a great success. Thank You!!

UID: Creating a new identity

The metaphysical, existential question, “Why am I?” (the purpose of life) has intrigued humans only marginally more than the psycho-social query “Who am I?”. Shakespeare’s answer (”…a rose by any other name would smell as sweet”) would gladden the generics industry, but offend individualists.

The Mc-D model

I was browsing my favorite newspaper, “the Wall Street Journal” and I came across this piece of news which sort of stopped me for a moment – “Your Bad luck is a windfall for airlines” and what I gathered is that your ticket cancellation, preponement, postponement or any such arrangements yields airlines a whopping $2 billion a year, much more than what they earn for baggage services and a simple search shows that a typical airlines makes around $15 billion. So if you add all these ticket alteration revenues, baggage revenues and all other value added service revenues, I am sure will come to a huge % of the total revenues but still one perceives that airline makes most of its money via the ticket sales.

“To attend a Tradefair or not?” that is the question

First of all sorry for being on a long hiatus from the blog world. Various reasons, most important was my long trip to US to meet various leads and clients and that took pretty much all of my time to prepare and present etc and then as soon as I was back, there were few clients visiting us and all my time was gone there but should not have been a reason to keep away from Blog :-(

“Don’t be an Idiot, you can’t do business here”

“Don’t be an Idiot, you can’t do business here”

This is the exact statement supposed to have uttered by Nandan Nilekani’s uncle when he announced that he and six others will start Infosys way back in 1981!!!!

EoC2 – a Roaring Success

Just back from the EoC2 (Emerge out Conclave 2) meet. This time it was in Chennai (the first one was held in Delhi last year) and I could feel a lot more energy and enthusiasm. Chennai NASSCOM unit rocks for sure.

I had a great day. The whole event was blogged and hence I will not reinvent the wheel and cover some of the aspects what I saw or perceived.

Connecting the Dots: Looking Forward

Connecting the dots looking forward is like looking into a starry sky, and from all the innumerable dots, seeing a coherent picture in a small group of them, and naming a constellation.

A few weeks back, I was speaking at the Indian Institute of Management at Bangalore to a group of alumni. We were speaking about something called “connecting the dots”.

Resurgent state & its business impact

One way for business to minimise the negative facets of the new environment is through self-regulation. However, legitimacy can be achieved only by involving credible civil society groups.

Discovering new horizons!

It’s been a year of discontent and yet a year of great satisfaction – for the country, the industry and for me personally. Taking over the reins as Chairman of NASSCOM at a time when there were just a few clouds on the otherwise blue skills of the Indian IT and Business Services industry, it has been interesting to see the constant word “growth” being quickly replaced by recession, slowdown, protectionism and layoffs as the repetitive lexicon of the times.
