Mr. Anand Mahindra's talk - bringing in the trimurthi comparison to the Indian IT story was quite thoughtful. His comment that the Indian IT team would need to now get into the mode of innovating, reinventing, sustaining & destroying - as the new world cometh. Just as Hiranyakashyap defied the rules and destroyed the practically invincible ( aka mission impossible)...similarly the Indian IT would also need to come up with its own version of the dasavataars to build & grow.

I have kept a keen eye on India’s incredible progress in the past five years and I believe this country is now a great example of how the ICT sector can become the powerhouse of an economy. Other countries are now trying to emulate India’s success by giving higher priority to ICT as a key enabler that underpins every aspect of our daily work and home lives.

The barriers to doing business across international boundaries are not only breaking down, they are dissolving at a mind blowing pace. Some of the major forces behind this are the need to maximise the effectiveness of business operations, deliver the best services at the lowest price, and compete globally for an increasingly scarce pool of skilled labour.

I also strongly believe that as globalisation gathers pace and encompasses more and more nations represented here at NASSCOM, it’s becoming paramount to establish an internationally relevant set of benchmark criteria for professional standards – and to support the concept of trusted technology and trustworthy ICT services.

Globalisation will facilitate the mobility of skills, it will enable Australian ICT professionals to gain international experience, and encourage greater flexibility and diversity in the global ICT workforce.

But, even more so and something which is of greatest benefit to all Australian’s and our economic prosperity, globalisation will foster new opportunities for global collaboration.

All of us are witnessing/particpating in a host of discussions on technology trends. What is appearing as a common thread is definitely Web 2.0 and Social networking. While there is a lot of awareness generated, it will be interesting to watch out how much of this is translated to action. You do hear of Tier 1 service providers working on social networking platforms for enterprise customers - we will know in a few months how widespread enterprise adoption is and the implications from an offshoring context.

Incorporating Facebook ( & other social media means) as an intranet- might sound radically insane but might be a novel way to grow internal bloggging and bonding among employees!
There are companies that have begun to see the utility of allowing employees to spends their time facebooking; and even having a Facebook Friday for staff. On the flipside, there are also the other extreme of HR departments banning this - due to supposed lack of productive time usage by their staff.

Having had Egyptian colleagues for a few years, I can also add that the intellectual capital residing in Egypt is also commendable. And this is not just limited to the IT domain, Cairo has one of the most sought after advertising & film production personnel...apart from those delightful mummies and zamalek Nile side eateries!
