Cambridge Tech to buy German firm
Cambridge Technology Enterprises Limited (CTE), a Hyderabad-based provider of service-oriented architecture-based solutions, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire SmartShift GmbH of Germany, a provider of tools-based modernisation services for IT systems. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2010. The acquisition will enable CTE to take advantage of the fast-growing cloud services market, which according to IDC is expected to reach USD 44.2 billion worldwide by 2013. With this buyout, CTE is entering the European Union market with a development centre in Germany and a number of marquee European reference accounts.
Wipro launches new global delivery centre in Chengdu, China
Wipro has strengthened its presence in China with the launch of a new global delivery centre in Chengdu. This facility, which offers IT and BPO services, will become one of the global delivery centres that the IT vendor has been setting up, with the potential to grow to 1000 seats. At present, the headcount here is 100. The new centre, Wipro’s second unit in China after its facility in Shanghai, will initially focus on testing and enterprise application services for manufacturing, banking, financial services and insurance industries. The facility will offer multilingual services in English, Chinese and Japanese.

IBS bags IT contract from Oman oil firm
IBS Software has bagged a contract from oil exploration major Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) to provide IT solutions to streamline its logistics services. The IBS solutions will streamline the booking system of PDO and increase the efficiency of its logistics services. The financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
Mahindra Satyam bags Rs. 100 crore outsourcing contract from Airbus
Mahindra Satyam has won a INR 100-crore (USD 20 million) outsourcing contract from the world’s largest maker of commercial aircraft, Airbus, to manage its internal quality and processes. The three-year contract involving technology maintenance, will put Satyam at a vantage point as it can now gain an overview of the projects and technology which control the organisation.
Cognizant signs R&D pact with UK-based Invensys Rail
Chennai-based Cognizant Technology Solutions signed a five-year, multi-million dollar contract with UK-based railway control and communications systems provider Invensys Rail Group (IRG), to serve the global product research and development (R&D) needs of the latter’s group companies located in the UK, Australia, Spain and the US. Cognizant will augment and maintain IRG’s suite of products and help the latter leverage its process maturity to bring in greater operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness to its global product R&D processes. Cognizant today made job offers to over 120 IRG professionals working out of the latter’s existing R&D centre in Hyderabad.
HCL signs USD 250 million, five-year deal with News Corp., UK
HCL Technologies announced a five-year deal with media conglomerate News Corp for managing its data centres and IT across UK newspapers like The Times, The Sun and The Sunday Times. Under the aegis of the deal, HCL will be transforming News Corp.’s UK subsidiary News International’s data centres and migrating its operating systems to a lower cost solution.
